The worst month of the year is finally over and we’re looking forward to waving goodbye to winter and welcoming spring with open arms. With the Easter holidays just around the corner, we’ve put together a fantastic selection of family-friendly fun and activities to enjoy in Devon this April.
Spectacular Spring Staycations in Devon
Devon really comes alive in the springtime, bringing with it colourful flowers, vibrant green scenery, and bouncing lambs. Spring is the perfect opportunity to shake off those winter cobwebs and explore the countryside, and Devon is the perfect place to do just that.
Devon boasts glorious golden sands and beautiful beaches. From lounging under the sun, playing sports by the tide, or learning to surf, there’s so many ways to pass the day. Visiting in the spring instead of at the height of summer means that beaches are quieter, and the fine weather offers the opportunity for photo-worthy views, without being too hot. With an incredible selection of gardens and country walks to discover, Devon is the perfect place to bring your family for a spring staycation.
Fun-Filled Family Activities to Enjoy in Devon this Easter
Devon is home to a whole host of family-friendly adventures for you to enjoy during your Easter break, all within less than 45 minutes from Exe Valley Glamping.
Why not get active outdoors with some fun group activities at Go Ape in Haldon Forest? Nestled in 3,500 acres of woodland, Go Ape allows you to take on awesome challenges like tree-to-tree crossing, super-springy bounce nets, and zippy Segways.
Fancy getting your hands dirty with a muddy adventure assault course? The Bear Trail in Cullompton is suitable for all the family, with 27 obstacles for you to climb, slip, slide, run and swing under, over and through. The Bear Trail is perfect for all ages, welcoming young toddlers, children, teenagers, and adults.
If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, then you can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities for all ages at Saddles & Paddles. Explore the local area on bikes, canoes, kayaks, or paddle boards. With plenty of fantastic cycle routes and waterways to explore from Exeter Quay, you are guaranteed to have a fun and exciting day out.
If there’s a horse-lover in your family, Pine & Lodge Riding is the perfect way to explore breath-taking scenery, ancient beech forests and the banks of the river Barle. Rides are escorted by friendly and experienced guides, so you can be sure you’re in safe hands.
Spend a sunny day on the perfectly pebbled beach in Budleigh Salterton, a lovely seaside town situated on the Jurassic coastline. Pack a tasty picnic and let your little ones splash in the estuary, riding the tides on boogie boards and inflatables. At high tides, the shingled beach transforms to reveal deep waters, which are perfect for swimming.
If a leisurely wander around stunning gardens is more your speed, then take a trip to Killerton House, a National Trust-owned house in Broadclyst with a grand Georgian house at its core. Home to one of Devon’s largest woods, Ashclyst Forest, this is a great place to enjoy a selection of dog-friendly walks.
Another idyllic location to explore sensational gardens is Cothay Manor in Greenham. 12 acres of romantic gardens boast a plethora of fine trees, courtyards and a river walk, which surround a majestic 14th Century medieval manor house.
Practically on our doorstep, Bickleigh Village is a glorious, picturesque location just a few minutes’ walk from Exe Valley Glamping. Situated on the banks of the River Exe, Bickleigh is well known for its thatched-roof cottages, attractive medieval bridge and its scenic pub and bar, the Fisherman’s Cot.
A little further afield lies the historic market town of Dulverton, which is home to over 40 independent shops, award-winning restaurants, and cafés. Visit the continentally inspired pub and restaurant Woods for a relaxed lunch set on the edge of Exmoor.
A wide range of picturesque tracks and trails will lead you to stunning landscapes of natural beauty. Whether your family enjoys long walks or scenic cycles, there’s a great selection of outdoor adventures to choose from. One of our favourites is the Exe Estuary Trail, a 26-mile route which offers fantastic views, a variety of wildlife, and riverside towns and villages, steeped in maritime history.
